A DAY IN THE LIFE, Vol. "TO THE GREATEST EVER..."

My parents often told stories of how they barely had anything when they started a family. When I came along, my folks had to hustle real hard just to keep things afloat... Especially my dad. My old man had to sacrifice a lot of himself just to give his family a good life.

Looking at us now, we have come a long way. We are now living like kings in our own little kingdom. Every single comfort that I'm enjoying right now, I owe it to my father.

I thank him for being a man for his family, a good father, a loyal husband, a gangster and a hustler... And since he's an OG and the best ever, I broke these out the other night for his birthday dinner.

JORDAN BRAND "STEALTH" PACK

Michael Jordan once said: “By the time you see me coming, it’s too late." His quote, and the way he approached the game of basketball throughout his career, inspired the stealth aesthetic featured in the Air Jordan XX8. The special Jordan pack, comprised of an Air Jordan I, Air Jordan III, Jordan MELO M9 and Jordan CP3.VI, takes its color cues from the Air Jordan XX8's night vision-inspired look.

The pack will be sold in two separate offerings scheduled for February 14 and 16. The first two shoes available in the pack will be the Jordan MELO M9 and the Jordan CP3.VI. Both products will feature integrated UV ink throughout the upper that illuminates when viewed under black light. The MELO M9 features a glowing outsole while the CP3.VI features an illuminated Podulon midsole when exposed to black light.

The offering on February 16 will feature an Air Jordan I Retro Mid and an Air Jordan III that will include the color cues aligned to the Air Jordan XX8. The Air Jordan I, which was first released in 1985, features a glowing outsole, laces and Jumpman logo when exposed to black light. The Air Jordan III, which debuted in 1988, features an electric green outsole and collar that draw inspiration directly from the color scheme of the Air Jordan XX8.

The pinnacle performance product of the weekend will be the Air Jordan XX8. Jordan Brand athlete Russell Westbrook debuted the latest iteration of the classic Jordan line on December 4. Consumers will have the opportunity to purchase two different color combinations of the Air Jordan XX8, including the black/white/electric green version.

Anyway, yesterday I was invited by my good friend and #SwooshFam Jino for a quick meeting over at the Nike Ph headquarters.

I was working on this poster on a plane, over Visayan airspace, headed for Bacolod. "ATTACK FROM ABOVE" literally! But hold on, it's not about me... It's the shoes! Word to Spike.

This Saturday, January 26, the much awaited classic will finally return. Prepare for combat folks because this is a free-for-all, first come/first served release... So look alive!

But if you are a TITAN PLAYERS' CLUB member, you don't have to sweat that much; Just for today, January 24, Titan is opening up reservation slots up until 12:00MN. You have about an hour to safeguard your pair.

The Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red" will be available at select Titan doors - TwoParkade, Burgos Circle, Taft, Katipunan and also on the Webstore.

TITAN 2K13 FINALS X AJ11 PLAYOFFS RELEASE EVENT RECAP

And so it was: The basketball footwear authority TITAN has finally released the Air Jordan 11 Playoffs - the year's most anticipated shoe. Coinciding with this epic drop is the Finals of their 2nd (do I dare say ANNUAL...) 2K13 Tournament.

Thursday, December 20 - Legions of Titan loyalists came down upon the RONAC Arts Center to get their much coveted pair of Air Jordan 11 Playoffs (or BRed 11s, as most fondly call them).

The place, even though packed, was far from chaotic... You have got to respect Titan's methods of handling such giant releases! From the second the customer approaches the table up until the time he grabs his bagged pair - that transaction was designed to take less than a minute to close. And guess what folks, Titan delivered like clockwork!

On the flip side - at around 1:00PM, the Titan 2K13 Tournament was underway. With the likes of MC Paolo hosting and DJ Ace Ramos providing the tunes (which were bangers, by the way...) even non-participants were all hyped up and shit!

The house was exploding with energy, and I have a feeling the food had something to do with it. Aside from the mainstay Sabrett Hotdogs, the homie Mackie's food venture EAT MY GF also made its way to the event... Feeding the hungry crowd who happens to have a hankering for good food.

Completing the event are the great people that came thru and showed their support. It's quite a long list; you know who you are anyway... So shout outs to you for giving love!

From a personal standpoint, I never had any idea how much work was being put into releases of this scale... Until that day. That's because Titan has always made it look easy. I am extremely proud of the team and how we did things! So if I may say, we all deserve a pat on the back. We ain't getting comfortable though... We got to soldier on, because we're on to the next one.

FADE TO BLACK.

There are 3 things I want to share:

///First.
As soon as I can open my eyes, my father has been encouraging me to watch basketball... And not just basketball... but LAKERS showtime basketball.

My first vivid memory of a great basketball game was way back 1991. It was the Bulls visiting the Lakers. The finals. I think that was game 1... I was 6, and my Dad, a die-hard Laker, was urging me to root for Magic and the showtime squad. I admired Magic, more so now because I mostly play point - but that Jordan guy was very, very hard to hate.

I didn't want to be like Mike... Because Magic, then and even now, is my only peg of a great basketball player. But as a kid growing up in a Laker household, I felt really guilty for being a Jordan fan. I felt awful coveting those black and red shoes that Mike had on... With the Porsche-like spoiler... And clear bottoms. I didn't know what they were called back then... All I knew was they were beautiful.

But at some point I realized, with the help of my Laker-loving family, that what I was feeling was not anything negative - rather a deeper sense of respect for the game.

And so, very much like Magic's beautiful game, Mike in these shoes were instrumental in birthing my love for basketball.

///Second.

I wouldn't call this my retirement... Because no one really does.

All it is is a conscious effort to end the days when I'd come home with 10 pairs of limiteds in the trunk of my car after just one night, or doubling up on a pair just for the heck of it, or doing something really financially stupid involving my wallet and eBay. I would still buy once in a while, a pair here, a pair there... But my "ball-so-hard" days are now behind me.

Truth be told, when all is said and done I wouldn't want to end it with copping just any pair. If I'm going out... I'm going out with a bang... switching hands in mid-air, banking it on the glass, and I would make it count.

And just like Jay-Z's ALLURE, I'll never leave this, I just can't. I don't think I can turn my back on this THING, this hobby that has made me so happy. I'm just taking a step back. I'll return... Wearing 45. I'm sure of it.

///Third.

In this game, we always put a premium on the footwear a little more than the people who wear them. Fortunately for me, I fell in the right circle. I'm pretty blessed to be with this group of people who, if I may say, are way more valuable than any pair of limiteds. You can't buy them, you can't trade them, and you can't cop them from eBay.

Clear soles yellow. Air units pop. Needless to say, shoes turn to dust. But these people, these friends... Brothers... Are all solid individuals.

Honor amongst hustlers - that is the rarest of all the grails in this culture. I am truly humbled to be in rarified AIR... In the company of great men.

Mackie Correa and Jason Tan are two of those people. These dudes gave "Presyong Kaibigan" (Friendly Price) a whole new meaning.

Mackie, thanks for hooking me up with these. And Jason, Pare, thank you for entrusting them to me. I can't thank you enough. Haha you lied tho, bro. You said they were VNDS... They seem very DS! Haha!

I know it's a lot to take in just from a pair of Infrared 6s. But please indulge me... I've come full circle.

CELEBRITY STATUS /// TITAN 2K12 CELEBRITY TOURNAMENT

I'm not sure why I was invited to compete in this tournament. I am not in any way a celebrity (my only claim to fame is this blog!). And if ever I was, I would probably be on the D-List! HA HA! Nevertheless, I am proud to be among the selected few to compete in the Inaugural TITAN CLASSIC... Ehem... 2K12 Celebrity Challenge, rather.

Professional ballers, TV Personalities, Rockstars and street culture taste-makers were pitted against each other in a single elimination tournament. NBA 2K Supremacy was settled in 4-3 minute quarters. It was very exciting and nerve wracking! My first round battle went to overtime, and was decided by a single bucket!

The games were hosted by Rely San Agustin, and Marc Macayan (MK9 champ and the dude who runs yourdailydoseofmarc.com). I think refreshments and ice cold beer were served by #Shaby's (not really sure about that one), and the muy delicioso hotdogs were provided by Sabrett!

On the far side of the RONAC Court, an Air Jordan exhibit showcasing some of the rarest, most expensive and sought after J's from some of best collectors in the industry were on hand to bring nostalgia, a bit of envy, and a whole lot of excitement to all fans who idolize the greatest to ever do it! Amazing job by Jojo, Rely, and the boys from Lightening Country!

And of course, Titan, who orchestrated this entire event! Amazing job as always! The tournament coincided with the Concord 11 release, and the Titan drop of the highly anticipated shoe will go down in sneaker history as one of the most organized sneaker operations ever. From the chip allocation and dispersal (even resellers started doing trivia games via their respective FB pages), to the system of claiming the pair, any sneakerhead would be hard press to find another event THAT organized and calculated. Congratulations fam!
